Changing filters is important to maintain good performance of your air purifier, dehumidifier or humidifier.

Filter for dehumidifier

Many dehumidifiers only have a simple nylon pre-filter. It should be vacuumed often, but not replaced.
Some dehumidifiers also have a HEPA filter. The HEPA filter should be replaced when it changes color, normally once or twice a year.

Filter for humidifier

Most humidifiers have a water filter that removes limescale from the water. This should be replaced once a year, or when you notice a white dust forming near the humidifier.
Some humidifiers also have a HEPA filter, which should be replaced when it changes color.

If you have an evaporative humidifier, you should change the filter when it turns brown, usually twice a season. The bacteria-killing Stylies "Clean Cube" should be replaced once a year.

Filter for air purifier

If you have invested in an air purifier, it is very important to change the air filter. Normally this should be replaced once a year, but if you change it more often, the air purifier will clean the air better, use less electricity, and have a longer lifespan.

A hygrometer can also be useful to have.
