DC or AC fan motor?

One small letter can make a big difference. A fan with a DC motor is a fan with a direct current motor. This offers many advantages:

• quieter
• lower power consumption
• better regulation / more fan speeds

Fans with AC motors are cheaper, but are also more "old-fashioned."

Power supply

• 230 Volt: If you need a large fan that will stay in one place, power from the wall is convenient.
• USB: Do you need a small fan for your desk or nightstand? Then a fan with a USB power supply might be useful.
• Battery: Do you want to take the fan on a boat, to the balcony, on a camping trip, or anywhere else where you don't have power? Choose a battery-powered fan. It charges via USB and can be used anywhere.

Noise level

Noise is not just a number; it can be perceived individually. Expensive, quality fans often have lower and more pleasant noise levels. If noise is important to you, choose a fan with a DC motor, and preferably one with the "Quiet Mark" certification.
